ATTENTION ! TANK SCHOOL is the ONLY establishment in western Europe where a civilian can properly ride a current operational combat-ready Russian main battle tank for a considerable lenth of time.
You will not be riding a small 13 tonne personnel carrier, loosely called a tank, you will be riding a 42 tonne main battle tank; over 3 times the size !
GROUP BOOKINGS: £195 per head when based on a group booking of 6 persons; all of whom will ride the tank. The advantage of a group booking is the ability to choose the date. THE DAY:
Arrival time: 09:45 for 10:00 prompt military briefing (other times available for group bookings). Duration approx 4 hrs.
On the HALF DAY BATTLETANK RIDER experience, you will be taken to the Quartermaster's store and kitted out in military uniform and helmet; feeling part of a military unit.
You will receive detailed briefing and instructions about your equipment and your safety; you are about to embark on the world's most full-on experience of a main battle tank; this is the real thing.
Following your initial briefing, you are then intoduced to the fully operational combat-ready T-55AM2 Tank for further briefing and instruction. Everyone's jaw drops when they come face to face with this ' mother-of-all ' tanks, and there's a lot to learn before we even start the engine.There then follows fascinating explanations of the Tank and it's weapon systems; you'll be staggered at the difficulties a combat tank crew face. TANK SCHOOL knows every inch of this monster and no stone is left unturned.
When the engine does start, stand well clear !, the ground will shake and the Tank is only at idle !
Soon, you'll mount the running Tank or climb into the back of the 6X6 all-terrain massive military Truck, Some will be comm'd up with headsets, and then we will all depart in convoy and at speed for the Battlefield Training Zone. The Tank will be only six feet away from the Truck tailgate; breathing right down the neck of those inside !
When the convoy reaches the Zone, get mentally prepared for an amazing military vehicle riding experience. Climb up onto the Tank amidst the deafening roar of the engine and get ready to be driven at speed around the incredible TANK SCHOOL tracks by an experienced driver; riding the Tank through the wooded 4km course and crashing through the undergrowth and over steep obstacles.
We find that all ages enjoy the experience; we have carried boys and girls as young as 15, and as old as 70 !
Then it's time for a sumptuous lunch of homemade sandwiches and cakes at the TANK SCHOOL Bunker.
When lunch is over, it's your turn to clamber up into the cab of the 18 tonne Berliet GBU-15 6X6 all-terrain massive military Truck, and ride around the bumps and tracks of TANK SCHOOL. This machine is so big it would power it's way right through one of those ' monster ' trucks; this is a real monster truck ; three times their size and weight ! The only one like it in the UK, utterly massive.
Finally, you will all return to Base in either machine, and those in the Truck will experience what it's like to be hunted by a 42 tonne tank !
At the end of the day you can truly say: ' I have ridden a proper main battle tank '
